Firefly Car Rental - Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport - FLL - Florida - USA

Ever arrive late at night in a new city with a rental car reservation in your hand happily thinking about getting into your rental car and driving after a long day to your hotel to relax and sleep? I did...a couple of days back.

I flew from LAX to FLL, a fairly long flight after a really long flight a couple of days earlier from Asia, so needless to I was fairly travel tired and looking forward to a few days in Miami in a hotel taking it easy.

However - I went to the rental car counters of which there were many, looked around...all the usual suspects were accounted for, signs showing their well known names, desks with service people helping customers...however, no sign of Firefly Car Rentals. No sign at all. Three floors of rental car desks and zero evidence that FireFly Car Rental even existed.

I asked someone at the Avis desk if they had any idea where I might find the Firefly Car Rental Desk. 'Yes, sir they are located off-site' you'll need to go outside and wait for a shuttle bus at stop number 6'. So I dutifully trundled down the escalator for the third time and wandered out into the balmy florida night to stand with a bunch of other people waiting for car rental shuttle busses to whisk them away to their desired destinations.

The flight came in 35 mins late so we arrived in FLL at 10.35pm, I wandered around looking for firefly car rentals desk for 20 mins or so before finding myself in the shuttle line. 11 pm lets call it. I immediately called the phone number for Firefly which was written on the shuttle bus sign. I remember other times I've had to call the office to let them know you're waiting and they send the bus....not this time. No one answered. I tried again 15 mins later...11.15pm, no answer. I sit. 11.30pm no shuttle for firefly by most of the other people waiting have been picked up by other busses by now. 11.45pm no shuttle - try the phone number again...by now there are two girls still waiting and one other guy who asks who I'm waiting for. We confirm we're both waiting for Firefly and turns out so are the two girls.

12pm the girls give up and wander off as does the other guy. I'm still trying the national ph number to get some sense out of them. Not because I thought this was a great idea particularly but because I knew I was about 30 miles from where I needed to get to and thought that driving the car that I'd already paid for was the best option...like some kind of naive fool.

12.30 pm I gave up also and found my way around to the main airport terminal to find a taxi, who for $120.00 would drive me to my hotel.

I never did get anyone from Firefly to explain, help, offer a refund or anything else...their phone service is a labyrinth dead ends and pass offs, they have no email address on their website.

I travel constantly worldwide and I can safely say - this is one of the worst examples of customer (NOT) service I've ever encountered.
