Unverified Renter Reviews
DO NOT RENT FROM HERE!
First of all i arrived at the airport with no green motion staff in sight, after 10/20mins wandering around car park and car rental areas another customer over heard me mention green motion and told me where to go, and eventually he arrived did the rep, not only was this an hour an a half after i had arrived and originally booked the car but he was not apologetic in the slightest. He then showed us to the shuttle bus where me and my friend had to get in as we were both driving, so he crammed 10/11 people in the the car wherr it was only a 9 seater and set off, to my surprise he was then going down a 90km/h road while showing people in the car his phone and i mean both hands of the steering wheel! When i arrived at the hire place it was a further 45 mins of waiting to get served! I was then served and was told the car i had hired was not available, baring in mind i had requested a manual vw golf petrol, I received a diesel skoda octavia estate automatic. Not thats nothing like i ordered, then came the fun part, we were told of damage, and told there was scratches in the paint and that was it. On looking with my second driver, we saw a huge dent on the passenger, and scratches and belmishes everywhere around the car. To which we mentioned the the hire rep. The car was boring for the travel which isnt a bad thing considering the ice and snow so that worked out well. Then came the dropping off, we checked the car and strated taking photos as the lady we hired from said it wouldnt be checked on straight away would be done later. But a lady popped out and told us it would be checked asap and that she had never seen so many pictures been taken before, we did this solely so we wouldnt get taken for a ride, which brings me to the next part, the rep told us there was a chip in the windscreen about the size of a 5 pence piece, possibly less. Considering we had drove a fair few miles and we did not see a chip at all and didnt hear it we were rather confused. It wasnt on the sheet before so we were in a catch 22 situation. She was adamant it was a crack, it wasnt it was a chip, i have seen cracks and seen chips before, but apparently a chip means you need to pay the sum of 99,515 ISK, around £750, i could get that fixed on my own car insurance for a small excess of about £60, so yeah i got shafted. The staff just stared at you and made you feel uncomfortable the whole time proceeding the drop off and the driver back to the airport was listening to really loud over the top music.
Thieves thieves thieves
I usually do not write reviews because i believe the negative reviews affect small business owners. But i decided to write this one since this company has unethical practices. We rented a car for 8 days, we told them upfront that we do not need insurance as our credit card covers us. On the day of return, they claimed that there is a chip off on the windscreen and we did it during the rental period. We didn't have time to find a picture to challenge the claim. So, we decided to pay for the damages ($650). But, later on, I looked thru my camera pics and realized that the damage was already there when we got the car but the lady had not marked it. It isnt our fault either that we didnt notice at the time we got the car. Because when we got the car, there were water droplets on the windscreen, and the chip off was so tiny, we didnt notice it among the droplets. Yes, it was our fault that we believed the honesty of the girl who checked the car at the time of delivery. We will probably get our money reimbursed from our credit card company. It isnt about the monetary loss but companies like these hurt the image of Icelandic people. We had absolutely fallen in love with the country and were so appreciative of the warmth and honesty of people. But, the people at green motion are thieves who just dupe people. Two more observations -
1. The day we received the car, there was someone else returning the car and i remember that they were charged the exact same amount for the damages.
2. Our car had a sign "Iceland 4X$ car rental" which i believe is a separate company.. So, i dont know if the same people are operating two companies with same cars.

My worst rental car for many many years. Leased a C-Class / Golf for a comfortable trip in Iceland but got a Fiat 500L. It was lousy soundproof so the roadside on Icelandic roads was huge and the windowsill from the windows was also troublesome. In the strong wind in Iceland, it was very unstable. They claimed when I picked up the car that this was bigger and better than Golf. It's simply a chat. Finds another company next time. When I told about things when I delivered the car, the staff shook my head as if I had no idea. Uproft!
Green Motion Iceland
!!!!AVOID GREEN MOTION!!!!
!!!!AVOID GREEN MOTION!!!!
Green Motion is running a SCAM and charging customers for PREEXISTING car damages
We booked a Jeep Renegade(orange) with Green Motion on 19th Dec-2018 from their Keflavik, Iceland location and picked the car around 12:30 AM. It was bit drizzling and the car was parked in dark spot in their parking. After signing the paperwork, the customer rep (Agne Kryzeviciene) asked us to take a walk around the car to look for any dents or scratches other than mentioned in the contract. Because of improper visibility and weather conditions we were not able to check the car properly and explained this to her. I told her that I am signing the paper but will do a thorough check next day in daylight and will send the pictures of any new damages if I find other than listed in the contract. The contract handed to us said that there were some dings and couple of dents, but the windshield and mirrors were clean. Next morning when I did a walk around, I found the windshield crack on the passenger side. So as said, I took the pictures of the new findings and emailed it to the them.
The woman at the office however was definitely not a good representation to the Icelandic tourism. I am very sure that she was NOT Icelandic - every single Icelander we met on our trip was so lovely, honest and friendly. She was rude and arrogant and was putting severe pressure on us to buy the full insurance package at a awful price, which we didn’t as we had our own insurance.
When we returned the car on 26th Dec-2018, the customer service representative (Vadis Jona) told us that they have found a new dent/damage underneath the front bumper on driver side. The dent she pointed out is way under the front bumper and being a customer, anybody can miss it while doing a walk through. I tried to explain it to her that it was not caused by us. If it is a new damage, then there should be scrap marks or scratches on the bumper due to a hit caused by something. But there were none. Secondly, I tried to explain her that while handing over the car, if the company guys can miss the very visible windshield crack then this is way under the car, so it is very easy miss too. But she was very adamant and asked us to pay for the damages. These guys also know it very well that our flight was in next 1 hour so we were in no position to argue our case for long. We even asked her to let us talk to her branch manager, but she was so arrogant and said that she is the manager and the owners are not here.
When we browsed on the internet we found lots of similar complaints. They play the same card with everyone, just the damages and cars are different but their modus operandi to cheat people is the same.
When signing the contract, they push you to buy their insurance which comes out to be more than the rental value and if you don’t buy then they rip you off like this. Needless to say, this was a very bad ending to our awesome trip in Iceland!
One of the UK’s largest car hire booking websites, Holiday Autos, has already removed Green Motion from its listings following “a flood of complaints” from customers.
Please avoid GREEN MOTION RENTAL CAR COMPANY as I don’t want any of your trip to get a bad ending as ours. Please don’t get yourself trapped in their upfront low-price tag as they will rip you hard later.
